At In Harmony Acres

We purchased our land with the intention of building a community center to support homeschooling and homesteading families. When we got onto our land, we knew creating a Children’s Garden – a place to eventually teach gardening classes – was our first goal. Take a look at how it has grown and changed over the years:
Year 1 – 2021
The first year of our Children’s Garden was in 2021. We moved onto our raw land in April where we lived in our tiny 16 foot RV. In our excitement to finally be on our land, we got straight to creating a garden! We’d find out pretty quickly that it was in a spot where our property would flood. Since the placement wasn’t the best, we’d move the entire garden up the hill in 2022.
Year 2 – 2022
Our garden in 2022 was about four times the size it was the first year! We moved it up the hill and fenced in a much larger area, next to our newly built chicken coop. We planted 6 strawberry patches, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, grapes and currants. We also built a herb garden and 11 large raised garden beds.
Year 3 – 2023
In December of 2022, our house finally arrived. It wasn’t until almost April 2023 when we would move into the house and be done living in an RV full time. This year we threw a bunch of potatoes in the beds, let the chickens in, and focused mostly on keeping up the perennials that were previously planted.
Year 4 – 2024
In 2024, we were very busy settling into our home and creating our home garden, but we were able to take cuttings from our elderberry and blackberry bushes in the Children’s Garden to root and make new plants.
Year 5 – 2025
In 2025, we got our first sizable harvest of elderberries from the Children’s Garden, and also a wonderful harvest of Jerusalem Artichokes. It became home to our flock of French Black Copper Marans, as well. They did an excellent job cleaning up some garden beds for us.
Year 6 – 2026
In 2026, we are excited to get the Children’s Garden into tip-top shape to prepare for Garden Club to start! We let it get a little unruly the last few years as we were settling into the house! But now we are cleaning it all up, adding some new things, and excited to welcome students in the Spring!
