What is a Seed Swap?
A seed swap, or seed exchange, is an event where gardeners from a community gather to trade the seeds they have saved or purchased. Bring seeds you no longer want and leave with new ones to try!
What Can I Expect?
A laid back atmosphere, plenty of conversation with fellow seed lovers, and vendors with information to share. You will place your seeds in the corresponding bins, and then take as many packets as you brought OR leave a donation. Our seed swap is modeled after the one in this video.

Guidelines for Swapping:
- PARTICIPATE – Each person should bring at least 3 packets of seeds to swap (with at least 20 seeds in each packet)! These can be self saved seeds or store bought ones.
- 1 FOR 1 – For each packet you bring, you may take 1 packet home. It’s a 1-for-1 swap.
- DONATE – If you don’t have seeds, a donation of $2/seed packet is recommended to leave with seeds.
- LABEL SEEDS – Please have seeds labeled according to the Guidelines for Seeds.
- EXTRAS – Bring jars, envelopes or small baggies to collect loose seeds.
Guidelines for Seeds:
- LABEL – DOWNLOAD THESE FREE SEED PACKETS or label your seeds with as much information as you have on them (type, variety, amount, growing conditions, heirloom, native, etc…)
- SELF SAVED – If the seeds were saved by you, please make sure they are viable and have sprouted for you in the past, or label them if you are unsure.
- HYBRID SEEDS – Please clearly label hybrid seeds as they will not grow true to the parent plant.
- OLD SEEDS – Seeds older than 2 years must be clearly labeled, as they may not germinate at a high rate.
- UNSURE – Unsure of what kind of seeds you have? Check out THIS ARTICLE for some clarification.
